Seo Young-Deok is a Korean artist who creates sculptures using tightly knit configurations of welded bicycle chains and industrial steel chains.
What Seo Young-Deok’s sculptures exhibit is the anxieties of the modern human and especially the anxieties of the younger generation. Thus, his works have a strong sociological meaning that reflects upon the fragmented world we live in.
We might also go as far as to say that the fact that he is using the chain, a form of linkage, is an attempt to present the natural form as one with the manmade and the mechanized. In other words, today, technology and industry are part of life.
