UNESCO Cities of Design

Yulia Brodskaya is known for “painting with paper”. It is a contemporary art of quilling where strips of colored paper are folded and spiraled by the artist. She uses flat fields of color between and behind each textural element instead of putting the manipulated paper strips on the whole surface. Thanks to these techniques, dramatic shapes and shadows are revealed.

Brodskaya worked on this technique to evolve and develop for 12 years and she compiled all her creative process in a forthcoming book: “Painting with Paper”.
